With all the characteristics of standard wine, but an alcohol strength of 8% abv (alcohol by volume), Sovio has 40% less alcohol and almost half the calories of traditional wine.

Sovio is refreshing, delicious, premium wine, which is reduced in alcohol content, but without sacrifice of wine aroma, flavour or integrity. It is the result of an extensive research and development investment by its owners, DB Wines, and epitomises what modern winemaking techniques can achieve.

Sovio, served in stylish single-serve screwcap 200ml bottles, is available in two styles. Both blanco (white) and rosado (rosé) are semi-sparkling wines with exceptional fruit aroma and flavour. This results from the blending of traditional Spanish grape varieties with deliberately low grape yields per hectare, cool hillside growing conditions, and temperature controlled fermentation.

Other New World winemaking techniques, including use of the Spinning Cone Column for alcohol reduction, contribute to their delicate natural lightness and refreshing character, at 8% alcohol by volume. This combination of wine quality and reduced alcohol level is what makes Sovio unique.

Sovio is presented in premium quality 200ml single-serve screw-cap frosted glass bottles. It will be launched in the UK on trade during 2007 and will receive extensive marketing support.

DB Wines - Innovation in the UK wine sector
DB Wines is a new UK wine company with ambition, passion and vision. We design ‘new generation’ wine brands – wine which is reduced in alcohol content, but does not sacrifice wine aroma, flavour or integrity.

To do this, we combine Old World wine values, quality and tradition with New World winemaking skills and cutting-edge technological capabilities. These are supported by UK-based sales and marketing expertise, to ensure that consumer and trade needs are at the heart of everything we do. For further information, please visit www.dbwines.co.uk

Vision
Our vision is to lead the market through the design of ‘new generation’ wine brands – wine which is reduced in alcohol content, but does not sacrifice wine aroma, flavour or integrity. The UK wine market has been changing dramatically and we believe that there are a number of significant market trends to support our vision.

One of the most significant trends has been the increased purchase and consumption of wine by women, who now account for more than 50% of expenditure on wine. This has been a key driver of the UK wine market – now the largest and fastest-growing sector in the UK alcoholic drinks market. It has also influenced consumer attitudes, behaviour, consumption and expectations with regard to wine. Wine producers, as well as bars, pubs and clubs, must respond accordingly.

The alcoholic strength of wine continues to increase, as the result of climate change, improved viniculture and changing tastes. However, there is powerful evidence that many people are concerned at the alcoholic strength of wine when consumed in bars, pubs and clubs. They wish to moderate their consumption of alcohol when out of the home, for reasons including diet, family commitments, driving, health, lifestyle, self-image and work.
The UK Government recommends that women drink no more than 2 – 3 alcohol units per day. Yet just one 250ml glass of wine at 14% alcohol by volume – as served in many bars and pubs – contains 3.5 units of alcohol!

However, the lack of suitable alternatives to full-strength wine in many bars, pubs and clubs means that, for some consumers, drink purchasing can sometimes be an unsatisfactory compromise, rather than a positive choice.

We believe that the time is right for a new way to enjoy wine. A way which delivers the ‘fruit forward’ style many consumers prefer, and the authentic wine characteristics and integrity they expect – but delivered in a way which is lighter, softer and more refreshing.
